The 90th-minute draw against Palermo is as important as a win for Udinese, reduced (“which were left or which were reduced to”?) to ten men in the last 30 minutes of a thrilling match: "I am very glad of the score - comments the coach, Francesco Guidolin -. I might say we had faith until the end, but it would be obvious. I am more happy (“happier”?) with the score than with the performance. Palermo played better than us and Brkic's valiances (???) kept us alive".

What were you afraid of before this match?

"After two consecutive wins I saw a bit of presumption and self-contentment. Palermo had had (you could just say: “Had two…”) two undeserved defeats from Inter and Juventus. We can lose all the times (“all the time”?) if we play like this. Now the emergency is over, and we need to find the balance and fight tooth and nails (“tooth and nail”?)  every Sunday. Many players who are back from the infirmary still need to find the right balance yet".

How did you like Muriel?

"He made a good start and burned all his petrol (what is he, a Formula 1 race car?) at once. He was eager to play".

How did you judge Heurtaux's expulsion?

"The referee's decision is law" (“is the law”?).  How did you cope with his absence?  "We played with 4-3-2. The first part of the second half, as long as we were 11 of us, was our best part".

Now the away game in Bergamo to end 2012.

"Actually, there is another Coppa Italia match againsr (“against”?) Fiorentina. It will be our 26th match so far. We need to rely on our last strengths".

What is your target now?

"Still the same: scoring 40 points. We still need 17 (“points”?) to avoid relegation".

Lazzari: "We had faith until the end"

"This match was important and we had faith until the end. Our strength comes from a series of things such as the self-sacrifice spirit and the willingness to fight until the end".  After the match against Palermo, Andrea Lazzari said he was very satisfied with the good performance and the great reaction of the group.

Andrea, despite the difficulties, we could see the great spirit of this group. Is this your strength?

"This match was very important to us, we had faith until the end. Our strength comes from different things such as the self-sacrifice (“self-sacrificing”?) spirit and our willingness to fight until the end".  Is the Coppa Italia your new goal?

"We really care about that competition and we want to win". Are you feeling tired for the large (“because of the large”?) amount of matches played so far?  "We are a bit tired indeed, but we are working well and we have proved to be in good shape". Did you expect such a fit Palermo?

"We knew they are organized, we had seen it against Inter and Juventus. They gave us a hard time, but we equalized in the end".  Happy of Muriel's return (“Happy for”?)? "Of course. He had the right approach to the game. He is very talented and willing to play" (“and is willing to play”?).

From Di Natale-dependence to goal-factory!

Udinese were said to be Di Natale-addicted for their goals. The latest performances say the contrary...

 

Udinese have started flying again. A tough season, if compared to the last two, which is almost going back to the standards we were used to, with many goals coming from different players. In the last two matches 6 goals have been scored by 5 different players, to prove that also in Udine there is a cooperative (??) of goals. Quite interestingly, defenders seem to find it easy to score. The top scorer of the past few weeks is Danilo, who has scored to (“who scored against”?) Cagliari and Sampdoria. The Brazilian player has done better than the past year, when he had scored only once. But the last few matches have proved that also Gabriele Angella has a flair for goals. He has scored 3 times this year, and that is peculiar since he had scored only one goal in the rest of his career, since 2008. Last but not least comes Giovanni Pasquale, the defender who has interrupted his fasting (???) which had been lasting since 31 May 2009 against Cagliari. 

Moving to the midfield, we find more answers to those who claim that this squad is Di Natale-addicted. Roberto Maximiliano Pereyra has already scored 2 goals this year and he is doing better and better. "El Tucu" had broken the ice last year with the last goal scored (“against”?) to Lazio during the match that tasted like a Champions League “(Champions’ League”?) play-off. The Argentinian player is a rising star, he had never scored for River. A sign that Guidolin's pattern help (“helps”?) the players grow and learn how to be effective in front of the goal. In spite of those who say there is only one scorer at Udinese...

"Italian taste championship" gets tough

The two squads are going to challenge each other on Saturday December 15 at the Friuli stadium at the sound of frico and arancini (maybe a translation of what these two foods are??), Montasio cheese sandwich vs cheese flan, strudel vs Sicilian cannoli.

A new way to promote our territory is becoming a successfull (“successful”?) format: the Serie A championship will start on Saturday 15 with a cooking challenge between Udinese and Palermo. Journalists, fans, authorities and the new generations of fans will be the judges to determine the winner who will be able to prepare a recipe of their own local tradition.

The "Italian taste championship" is a chance for promoting, through recipes and typical products, the territories of the regions of the two football teams facing each other on Sunday, to therefore promote the interregional touristic (!!) flow. Before the start of this challenge the Sicilian guests will attend a presentation of the regional territory made by Turismo FVG. The challenge is another step in the promotional strategy of Turismo FVG dedicated to the Sicilian market, connected with FVG through many flights. In order to enhance the arrival of visitors fans (“visitors/fans”?) some ad hoc package tours have been created which shall be sold also via Udinese.it.

Udinese and Palermo will be facing one another in the kitchen with two finger-food dishes and a typical treat. Udinese will be represented by Stefano Basello, executive chef of the restaurant "Là di Moret" in Tricesimo (UD), who will be making both the dishes, whereas the Sicilian guest will line up Gigi Mangia, chef of the namesake restaurant in Palermo, to make the main course and Gianfranco Sampino to make the dessert.

Friuli Venezia Giulia will try and win with a dish that represents one of the top end of the regional wine and food production, the "Frico, today and yesterday: classic crunchy frico plus a revisited one" and with a "Montasio cheese sandwich with Schultar and horseradish". Palermo will be cooking a classic of Sicilian cuisine, the famous arancino proposed in the version "Arancina d'amare" and with a "cheese flan". As for the desserts, the challenge is between a local "open strudel" and the Sicilian "illogical and ill-formed analysis of His Majesty the Cannolo".

The dishes will be judged by a jury made of journalists (“made up of journalists”?), representatives of the fans and - guest star of this fourth challenge - the coach of Udine rugby (“Udine’s rugby team”?) team Craig Green. The jury shall consider the presentation, the perfumes (Chanel? Givenchy? Armani?) and the taste of the dishes. Other members of the jury will be some young Udinese fans from the New Generation who will taste the dishes along with an apple juice produced in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The children will be told about the importance of a correct diet and of the discovery of touristic (!!!) beauties of the region. The young fans will also be involved in a game tied to the promotion of the territory.  The event, organized (“which is organized”?) by the Turismo FVG Agency together with Fipe Friuli Venezia Giulia, Fipe Sicily, Fipe Palermo, Udinese Calcio and the support of the pupils of the ISIS Stringher of Udine, will be hosted by Walter Filiputti.

Brkic: “Well-deserved win, now let’s move on”

 “One year ago I was injured and it was hard for me to come back, but I’m happy for these three points. We played well, it was a well-deserved win, I am very happy”. After the away win, Zeljko Brkic talked about the performance of the squad and of himself as he saved the second penalty kick this season. “For me the most important thing is to be in good shape. As I said before, it was hard to come back after the injury, but I’ll do whatever I can to do so”.
Did your team-mates tell you how to save the penalty? “I am the one saving (“I am the one who saved it”?) it without suggestions. I want to move on and focus on next Saturday’s match. I’m happy because they all played with force (“strength”?) and personality. If the midfielders play well, they make it easier for the defenders too”.  Do you think this group can reach Europe?
“I can’t see why not. I think we are a quality group and we can be in shape again after the injuries”.  Were you upset for Obiang’s shot in the last seconds?
“It often happens to remain uncovered, the squad made a great effort for 95 minutes and it’s hard to be ready all the times” (“all the time”?).

Heurtaux: "We're on the right track"

He was able to be patient ans (??) now he is answering the big call of coach Guidolin (“answering Guidolin’s big call”?). Thomas Heurtaux, at the end of the match at Marassi (“Marassi stadium”?, said he was satisfied for the three points and optimistic for the continuance of the season: “We played a great first half and we defended to play a good match – he said -. Our target is to avoid relegation, we are on the right track and we’ll go on like this. We should win two matches in a row to give a positive signal”.

Guidolin: “I want the Udinese I saw against Cagliari and Liverpool”

Luis Muriel is in the group and he will fly to Genova where Udinese are facing Ciro Ferrara’s Sampdoria in this Monday’s late match. “He has been selected – said the coach Francesco Guidolin – as well as all the others except for Benatia and Coda. The group spirit is all (??), especially in (“an”?) emergency”.
What do Udinese need to face Sampdoria?
The determination shown against Cagliari and Liverpool. In those matches the squad expressed order (as in pizzas?), discipline, intensity. If we forget one of these qualities, we will lose.
Did you like what Di Natale did against Cagliari?
Totò is the leader of the team. He interpreted the role of the captain in the best way, giving the example to everybody else.
How have you prepared your players?
I’ve been giving my players examples and situations. I try to show them the dangers we’re facing, I work hard on them, but it doesn’t happen what we want (??) on the pitch all the times. This is a brand new group that has to adjust in to (“has to adjust to”?) the hardest championship of the world.
What do you think of Sampdoria?
They are similar to Udinese, with the same position and the same goal: avoiding relegation. There are many things in common, we both have a number of midfielders to rely on.
Wasn’t it risky to use Pinzi and Benatia to face Liverpool?
Benatia has nothing particular (??), and I hope he’ll be playing against Palermo. And playing half the match was good for Pinzi, it was a calculated risk.
What do you think of Pereyra’s performance so far?
He has grown a lot, he is working hard and he can do so because he’s young. He can play as a flanker or as a central midfielder. He can stay everywhere (“He can play everywhere”?).  We could make a good jump ahead with two wins in a row.
With two wins we could get out of the red zone, but two defeats are enough to get us into trouble again. We have an exam going on tomorrow, it’s called Sampdoria: it will tell us what to do next.

GENOVA LIVE – Totò and Guido anti-drug spokespersons (“spokespeople”?)

Udinese went visiting (“went to visit”?) the Sheraton where they met three children from an association of the hospital of Galliera of Genova dealing with smoking, alcohol and drug. The children gathered autographs and swapped a shirt of the association with Totò Di Natale’s.

Goodbye Europe, now let’s focus on the league

Udinese say goodbye to Europe through Liverpool which win (“which won”?) at the Friuli and turn (??) for the next phase of the Europa League. Guidolin’s squad, mathematically (literal translation of “matematicamente”?) out of the competition before that match, leaves the Cup playing a powerful, pride match (??), fought until the very last second and almost managing to get an equalizer that would have eliminated Liverpool. In that cold Friulian night there is also room (“there was also”?) for the record broken by Totò Di Natale, who has made his 33rd appearance in a continental competition. A hardly-beatable record. Now on with the championship. After the European path there are three matches ahead that can represent a crossroads for the future of Udinese: Sampdoria, Palermo and Atalanta before the Christmas break. Plus the Coppa Italia match against Fiorentina scheduled for December 19. There is no rest for Udinese, starting from this Monday’s match against Sampdoria in Genova. The target is to do better, especially on the table, the emergency concerning injured players seems to be over so the return of some important players will grant the squad a dose of experience needed in this particular time of the year. An important test-bed (??) for a squad willing to start winning.

Fabbrini: “We played a good match, I am sorry we didn’t score”

After the last European appearance of the season, Diego Fabbrini feels satisfied with the squad’s performance and confident in the good continuance (!!!) of the championship: “We played a good match, we did our best. They gave us a hard time at first with possession, but then we had a good number of chances, even if we didn’t score”.  Does the win of Young Boys and their affirmation in Europe make the elimination less bitter?  “This round was complicated, the Europa League teams are all first-level. Young Boys seemed to be a weak team at first, but they turned out to be great. It was one of the toughest rounds, made of very good teams”.  Do you think you’ll play in Europe next year?
“It would be great, but I think we have to take one thing at a time. I think we should try to do our best one match at a time, then we will be able to see where we are at the end of the year”.
