Udinese...

09-02-2010

“This season, (“a”?) few points during the away matches. (“We’re”?) Ready to shift gears in Milan this Friday”

Samir Handanovic: “The win against Napoli, (“it’s”?) fundamental for the team spirit. The course of things is chancing (“changing”?) at last”

Udinese’s number one looks back to the goal Maggio scored last Sunady: “At first I was angry, because we could have easily avoided it: we just had to be quicker on the rebound. Ours is a secure defence: we have known each other very well for a long time, (“and”?) we have been playing together for ages. I admit I can still improve, I always hit the pitch to do my best”. The tackle between Isla and Maggio is still rumored about (??). “It is a difficult game move (??) to evaluate. It must be clear that the game is quick, it is not as clear as in the slow motion (which slow motion?): judgments should be more objective and fair. What should we say each time Sanchez is thrown down to (“on the pitch”?) the pitch? The players should me more collaborative and respect the referee’ s decisions and role a little more”. Against Napoli, Udinese was concrete and convincing (invert the phrase?): “We are happy we won. The win against Napoli has been fundamental for our team spirit. The course of things is changing at last. If we consider both the Catania and Napoli matches, we brought home 4 well deserved (“well-deserved”?) points. Now two tough games are at the horizon, and the new course is the right path to follow”. The next away match is on Friday 12 February at 20,45, at the Stadio San Siro: “Milan is Milan. They have so many football stars, they could score at any time. It is also true they are soon facing Manchester United, but I don’t think they will spare energies nor good football”. Slovenia belongs to group C for the qualification for Euro 2016; the same group as Italy, Serbia, Northern Ireland, Estonia and Far Oer Islands: “It will be great to face Italy and Serbia. I like tough matches. I am fancying about a possible Italy-Slovenia to be played in Udine… Fingers crossed! (“Let’s keep our fingers crossed”?)”

“I expect to see a great performance: we want to win again”

Gianni De Biasi on the eve of Udinese-Napoli: “Tomorrow, a tough match”

The defeat at the Olimpico for the Coppa Italia match does not seem to have overwhelmed Udinese: progress has been made, and more progress is still to come. Gianni De Biasi is as realistic as usual: “It was a punch in the face. And we didn’t react in the right manner: we lacked of (“of”?) strength and balance. In such situations, you are sometimes a victim of some negative mental approaches I am trying to eradicate. I am sure Udinese will overcome this impasse”.
About tomorrow’s match, few doubts (word order….!). “The opponent team (no need to also say “team”) is a high level squad, they must really share some values that make them united and compact. Are we tired? We have only had two days to recover, but I am not worried: after the defeat in Rome we are more and more determined to win again and what I expect to see tomorrow is a great performance and a tough match”.

“It was a relief!”

The day after Udinese-Napoli

Giovanni Pasquale’s face is smiling and relaxed the day after Udinese-Napoli: “It was a relief. We really missed winning and the best thing about yesterday was that we really deserved it. We have recently played quite good football, and the win against Napoli is just crushing”.

Udinese want (“wants”?) now to play like a six-speed car: “That’s the way we want to play from now on, if you start from the very first minute playing in the right manner, then you leave no chances to the opposing team”. What if it was that little bit of luck… “I hope so. Lately, we have been both unlucky and imprecise, thus missing some good chances. Against Napoli it was different”. Milan is round (“around”?) the corner: “It won’t be the same team we met for the Coppa Italia. It is true they are also concentrated on the Champions (“Champions’ ”?) League, but I don’t think they will spare energies (“spare their energy”?). Moreover Roma has got (“gotten”?) ahead of Milan. We have to be determined and take advantage of (“a short…”?) short passing game”. What did you tell your captain Di Natale in the dressing room after his stunning hat-trick? “…We insulted him and told him off… (Laughing)”.

Gianpaolo Pozzo: “Udinese, congratulations. Maggio was fairly red-carded”

“Isla did not even brush him. The referee did not favour us at all”

An extraordinary win Paron (“Paron”? That’s great, but how many people out there know what “Paron” actually means?) Gianpaolo Pozzo wants to comment about, to stop any rumours or any tendentious interpretations about Udinese-Napoli. First of all, he congratulates the coach and the team: “Congratulations to them all for their win against Napoli, a strong and prepared team. We have obtained a great result, we needed these points to recover, to be more confident, to start anew. Also (,?) in recent matches, we would have deserved the three points, but then they did not arrive (??). We have to breath deeply and keep on struggling, there is still a lot to do. I noticed how the team was tense and nervous during the second half: they knew how important those three points were”. The future is today: “I hope the 3-1 to Napoli (“the 3-1 victory against Napoli…”?) may give us the opportunity to un-block this impasse, and to climb the table in order to get to higher positions, the ones that Udinese has been used to taking (??). We know our true potential”. Today, a little dirty mark (???), too. “I cannot understand why the media are trying to manipulate the red-card to Maggio: the referee was close to him, (“a”?) few metres away, so he had the chance to see the whole thing. In the dressing room, I spoke to Isla (invert the phrase order?): he assured me he didn’t even brush Maggio, and I know him to be a sincere guy. The red-card is a fair decision. Enough with any rumours or tendentious interpretations like these”. 90 intense minutes: “I cannot understand why someone is saying the referee favoured us. It is completely non-sensical. I only want to underline that the team did an excellent performance, and deserved the three points. I am absolutely optimistic about the future”.

Udinese...

04-02-2010

“A clear mind and care for the details”

Gianni De Biasi: “It is a 180 minutes (“180-minute”?) match, we have to try to score during the away game. We have to be careful to defend and to avoid fouls within the penalty area”

On the eve of Roma-Udinese coach Gianni De Biasi wants to point out that: “The Cup is a very important objective, but avoiding relegation must come first, at the moment. Roma is living an extraordinary moment: they last lost here in Udine, it was 17 matches ago! (??, invert the phrase perhaps?) We must keep a clear mind and care for every detail. It is 180 minutes long match (“180-minute long match”?), and I think it is fundamental to score during the away game. We must be careful about counterattack actions, to make an example (?? Invert the phrase?). They have excellent strikers, skilled in free kicks from just outside the area, so we have to keep them away from our penalty area”.
The bianconeri (“bianconeri” in this case lower-case???) have sawn (“sawn”? Past participle of “to sow” is “sown”, isn’t it?) good seeds in the League, but have harvested little recently: “True. In Catania, we played well and it was not at all an easy field to play on, nor they were (“nor were they”?) an easy team to face. Against Sampdoria, it was a bad home defeat. We should have been more concentrated and should have handled the final minutes in a better way”. A word about D’Agostino and the called-up (??) players for Tim Cup: “Gaetano only needed to be a little more confident and to get a better physical condition (“to get in better shape”?). As for the match in Rome, I am going to let the best possible line-up to hit the pitch from the first minute”. About Geijo. “A strong forward, but quick and sure footed (“sure-footed”?); a courageous striker and a good (“a good”?) at defending the ball and keeping it”.

“The debut was a great emotion to me (“for me”?): I want to do my best for Udinese”

Alexandre Geijo Pazos about his first Italian minutes on the field

After playing for a few minutes at the Olimpico during the Tim Cup match, Alexandre Geijo Pazos seems to be a very determined guy: “ I have noticed many differences with the Spanish Liga especially in terms of tactics: both in the defensive and in the offensive phase, the team move (“moves”?) on as a compact block. In Spain there are more one-to-one duels”. Geijo debuted at the Olimpico, the legendary Rome stadium. Were you a little worked up? “Yes, I was. I was proud of wearing (“the”?) Udinese uniform and to play at the Olimpico with that t-shirt” (“top”?). We all have realized how Geijo is a strong although quick and agile forward: “I like quick football, through passes, ball recovering and defending. I am versatile and ready to do my best to please Udinese”. What is your idea of Udinese, up to now? “It is a deeply talented and skilled team. Difficult periods are common in football, we only need to win a couple of games in a row to recover and be more confident”. Now out of curiosity about his t-shirt number, 27: “During my career I have always had high numbers such as 19 or 22. The other day, my girlfriend picked 27 up among the ones available. It doesn’t matter to me, it is unimportant. The number doesn’t make the player”.
