Udinese...

Guidolin: “To start again doesn’t mean to forget Mario, but to honour  (or “honor”) his memory”

After a long, due silence after the tragic death of Piermario Morosini, Francesco Guidolin has held a press conference on the eve of the delicate early championship match against Chievo Verona.

What are the dangers lying in the match against Chievo? “Chievo are going through a positive moment, they have played a very good match against AC Milan, they made them suffer. I know Di Carlo very well and I know what he asks his squad, I also know some players, they are a solid group. There are many dangers”.
Why hasn’t Domizzi been selected?
“I saw you have reconstructed facts with a lot of details, you have been informed well.  My decision is the consequence of a wrong behaviour: it is sad and tough (sounds almost like a phrase coming out of a Spectre agent from the old Bond movies!). I think it is the first time that something like that has happened to me in 25 years of career. I want to point out that Domizzi has misbehaved towards me, but we haven’t argued”.

During the grief days (“days of grief”) for the death of Morosini you chose not to talk. Do you want to tell us what you think about it?
“I don’t feel like talking, I am suffering and, as often, I choose silence. What I am feeling is mine, I don’t like being under the spotlights (“spotlight”?) when I would like to hide, if only I could. I’d rather keep my memories and thoughts and feelings for myself (“to myself”?). They are mine”.  Did you appreciate the way the press treated the tragedy? How can you start playing again after only seven days?
“When such things happen I think that discretion and silence are the best ways to respect the sorrow. We need to go (“move on”?) and look on. We have stopped, and it was right, these have been very tough days. Now we need to start again because it doesn’t mean we have forgotten, but that we are honouring (“honoring”?) his memory”.  How is the squad doing?
“The squad is doing fine under a physical point of view. We have recovered Basta, Floro Flores, Benatia and Fabbrini. I am hopeful”.

Di Natale said that he played too much (“that he’s played too much”?). Do you agree?  “I am referring to Italy, and it’s been too much due to the tension in our country. I think that there is a strong contradiction between the sports event and the chance that also major teams can express a playing level peer (??) to the event they have to play, and it is due to an aspect that keeps in consideration the aesthetic value of our sport. Barcelona and Real Madrid will play tomorrow, but how can you think that Barcelona, who played on Wednesday in the Champions League (“Champions’ League”?), can play again on Saturday and on Tuesday? I would like to ask the organizers how they expect these players to be in shape. I could say many other things, but I don’t want to. The context is different, it has nothing to do with what happened to Mario, but in general I think that championships are too long and that we would need an 18-team league”.

Who should decide the fixtures?
“I am not talking about causes, I’m talking about effects. I’d love football to be managed without thinking of money. This is my belief, because football is a wonderful show and who practices (“plays it” or “takes part in it”?) it knows that one cannot play three matches in six days”.

All your strikers are available for tomorrow. Will you use two strikers or something different?
“I have a few ideas”.
Is Floro Flores able to play the whole match?
“I think so, he’s been training with continuance”.
Is tomorrow’s match a very important one for Europe?  “It is important because we need 6 points and we are in the running for Europe. We need to win”.

Can the choice of facing Chievo first and then Inter make any difference?
“I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it. I don’t think it’s going to be fundamental”.
Gelson Fernandes said that the opponents had changed their ways of facing Udinese. Do you agree?  “Udinese have been a top club for two years and now we are being paid more attention. I think that there have been several changes and many teams have faced us as in a mirror” (??).
