This is one of my ALL-time favourite strafalcioni: Italians who DON’T know English all that well inevitably screw up (both writing and speaking) the words “major” and “mayor”. No doubt Udine’s MAYOR, Furio Honsell, will be MOST happy to know that he’s been now promoted to the rank of army MAJOR by Udinese!!

Furio Honsell, major of Udine, guest of honour for “Piccoli Tifosi Crescono”

The major (???) is taking part into the usual press conference on Sunday 24th at 13,45 cet

“Piccoli Tifosi Crescono” is coming back on Sunday 24th for the championship match Udinese-Sampdoria. At 11,00 some kids will have the opportunity to take a look around (“the”?) Stadio Friuli: the dressing rooms of both teams (“the teams’ dressing rooms”?), the gym, the press room and the pitch! After that, they will wait for their idols to arrive on the Club’s bus.

At 13,45 there will be the usual press conference with President Franco Soldati, one of the players and major (one of the most common mistakes that Italians who DON’T know English well enough is with the word “major” and “mayor”. They always screw up! No doubt Udines’s MAYOR, Furio Honsell, will be MOST happy to know that he’s now been promoted to the rank of army MAJOR by Udinese!!). Furio Honsell as the guest of honour. There will be a debate about “L’Udinese e il suo territorio” (Udinese and its surrounding territory ). After the press conference, our little (“young”?) supporters will be given the team’s scarf and will watch the match under the supervision of “Progetto Walking”, and “Scuola di Tifo” entertainer officers (“entertainer”????? how about “entertainment” officers, if that’s REALLY the word they’re looking for!): the aim is to teach the kids the values of sports and the importance of respecting the adversaries (“opponents”?).
