Udinese...

Udinese Channel, Gianpaolo Pozzo: “We need to take Europa back”

The day after the second leg match against AZ Alkmaar that has wiped away Udinese hopes (“Udinese’s hopes”?) for the Europa League, Udinese patron (??) Gianpaolo Pozzo has given an interview to Gabriele Schiavi. “I felt hurt for how we’ve been eliminated – the president said – because we could have progressed, but we haven’t been lucky enough due to a series of problems. The Africa Cup, the friendly matches and a series of unbelievable international rules are punitive for us, with players destroyed (“who are destroyed”?) after their national duties (“games”?). It is hard to build a competitive squad, in a normal condition “(in normal conditions”?) this Udinese would have passed, but it was hard instead. But I’m happy with what we are doing, and I’m glad that in the end we’ve come out of the Europa League, so that now we can focus entirely on the championship, we’ll play to take our place in Europe back (“to play to get our place in Europa back”?), this is our goal”. Are Udinese starting to create their own European identity? “It’s very prestigious to get one’s identity in Europe, Europe is fascinating, it qualifies you and makes our club more professional”.

Gianpaolo Pozzo also talked about the dreams and ambitions of his Udinese: “Our dream is to continue this way. Building the new stadium is our primary goal, we’re at a good point and my wish is to create a right crowd frame, similar to the one we saw in Alkmaar, it’s a model we should bring to Italy, it’s the only thing we need to complete this job” (“in order to complete this job”?).
Napoli will be here on Sunday, a direct match if we consider the Champions League (“Champions’ League”?): “De Laurentiis is a friend of mine, we have a special relationship, both personal and professional. We’ll meet, we’ll hug and the pitch will tell us who the best is” (or, “who’s the best”?).
