Maicosuel: “Difficulties can be overcome together”

When Maicosuel has left the pitch, substituted by his country fellow Willians, the audience at the stadium has given him a standing ovation to prove him they have forgotten about the wrong penalty against Sporting Braga. “This is a good goal – the former Botafogo forward said -. I’ve been working for this moment for a long time, and I’ve always dreamt of this goal. The supporters have forgotten about that penalty, as well as I have”.

What do you expect now?
I have to continue like this, I can feel the trust of the coach and of the fans. It’s an important moment, I’m happy. Allan and I are gradually adjusting in.

The crucial moment of the game?
It’s complicated to be one man down, but we stayed calm and overcome difficulties together.

Poor credit cards!!!!

Well, you know the economic crisis is REALLY bad in Europe when even the credit cards are out of work (from a sign in a restaurant in Rome)!

Guidolin: “We have to watch out for Pescara’s organization”

After the break, the season starts again with the home match against Giovanni Stroppa’s Pescara. After a tough start, Pescara have (“has”?) shown to be able to play hard on everyone, and Francesco Guidolin, during his pre-match press conference, has highlighted the difficulties of tomorrow afternoon’s match.

Do you risk to underestimate (“Do you risk underestimating”?) tomorrow’s match?  We don’t, the squad are (“is”?) aware of the difficulties and of the opposing team’s ability. Pescara are (“is”?) one point ahead, so we don’t risk to underestimate (“underestimating”?) them. We have to watch out for their organization, their game plans and their preparation. This is what we should take care of.
How important are Basta and Pasquale’s absences? We have a few problems. Basta is still out, as well as Pasquale. I hope they can recover soon, but we don’t have them right now so we have to find some alternatives: Armero and Gabriel Silva on the left, Faraoni and Pereyra on the right. We can do good (“well”?) anyway.

Is Gabriel Silva allowed to play from the kick-off?  He is one of the boys born in 1991 who has been preparing with the squad all along. He’s working fine, we’re trying to make him grow and he’s doing better.

Would it be a good idea to have a 18-team Serie A?
I think so. Some of our players will be playing 16 games from here to Christmas. Is it logical to play, in two months, a whole round of the old 18-team championship?

Do you fear for your position?
We are not ranking (“ranked well”?) well, but people are used to our excellent positions of the last years…

What do you think of Muriel and Armero?
They are excellent players, Colombia are made of important players such as Radamel Falcao, who I think is the best player in the world right now. We hope Muriel gets well soon and we wait for Armero to be as shiny (like a star in the sky????) as he was in the first year.

Danilo has played 60 times in 62 games. Do you think it can afflict his performance?  These are my choices, I might be wrong, but I have made these choices. If Danilo played in (“with”?) his national team, he wouldn’t be playing so often, but he has the chance to rest during the breaks. At the same time, Coda is growing (in height?) and I can start having more defenders shifting now.

Bern: tickets go on sale today

The tickes (“tickets”?) for Young Boys-Udinese, the UEFA Europa League group A match schedued (“scheduled”?) at Bern (“in Bern”?) at the “Stade de Suisse” for Thursday 25 October at 9.05 pm, go on sale today, Saturday 20th October 2012. There are two typologies (“types”) of tickets available for Udinese fans.

Maicosuel and Muriel at the Udinese Store

A large crowd has welcomed (“welcomed”?) Maicosuel and Muriel at the Udinese Store yesterday. Udinese players have signed (“signed”?) autographs for more than a hour and have posed (“posed”?) for the photos (“for photos”?) taken by more than 100 fans who were at the official venue situated in Via Portanuova. Our two players, few days “(just a few days”?) before the home match against Pescara, have had a taste of the Friulian warm-heartedness!

Giovanni and Giampiero: Udinese stories!

Udine feels like home. At least until 2016. Giovanni Pasquale has renewed his contract with the Club for another four years, a clear signal of the trust between the parties. The mutual happiness is a proof of it (“is proof of it”?).

The love story between the left-footer and Udinese was born in July, 2008, when he was bought from Livorno and he made 28 appearances and 3 goals for Udinese. Attached to the squad, always attentive in training sessions, Pasquale has made 120 appearances and scored 4 goals for Udinese so far.

His latest goal has made him part of the Club’s history: minute 72 and the score at Anfield says Liverpool 1-2 Udinese. Di Natale, who had equalized Shelvey’s initial goal and kicked the free-kick where Coates’ own-goal came from, sees Giovanni coming from the left flank and serves him. Pasquale’s left-foot kick is precise and powerful and enters the goal. 3-1: joy for him and the Friulian fans.
Pasquale is indeed a member of Udinese big family. Until 30th June 2016, at least.

Guidolin: “Positive signals and commitment”
The test against ND Gorica, playing in Slovenia’s main league (“which plays in Slovenia’s…”?), was useful to try out the squad in view of important matches. “As usual, we have played (or “we played”?) a friendly match against a tough opponent – the coach said at the end of the match -. In these matches I use my unused subs, those who have to show me they are ready. I have received positive signals from all of them, they are very committed to our cause. It’s been a good day’s work”.

What do you think of Maicosuel?
He is doing fine and he’s understood what we want from him. He’s confirmed the good impression I had (“I had of him”?) in Naples. What do you think of Allan?
I need all of them, but they have to listen to me. We are in the Serie A and we have to work seriously. Admonitions are for his sake and to get to our goal (!!!).

Did you get any tactical information from this friendly (“match”?)?
We have tried different patterns to take out the best abilities of our footballers. Our squad need (“squad needs”?) to be ready for changes in game plan (“in the game plan”?) and positions. They need to follow a certain path to be ready when we need them.  Armero, in Colombia, has played a great match against Paraguay.
National teams are always an incentive, but he is a very talented player, the only thing that matters is for him to be healthy. Pablo only needs to find his enthusiasm because he has what it takes to react.

Pozzo: “This is not Totò’s last birthday as a footballer”

Gianpaolo Pozzo had to be part of Udinese Captain birthday (“Udinese’s captain’s birthday”?)! He could not miss the celebration for the 35th birthday of our captain, the symbol of his 20-year management of the club (hasn’t Pozzo been managing the club for 26 years?).

“I want to wish our Captain a happy birthday from me and my family (“from my family and I”?) – Udinese chairman (“Udinese’s chairman”?) said -. When Totò first came here in Udine (“to Udine”?) he was just a boy and I was confident in his abilities, but honestly I could have never imagined he would (“that he would”?) become the symbol of our Club and the most important player of my 26-year management!” (here instead it’s 26 years).

This acknowledgement is due both to the exceptional talent of Di Natale on the pitch and to the extraordinary things he has done so far.
“His talent is not a matter of discussion – Pozzo said -. But what really stroke me (???) the most, in all these years, is his incredible helpfulness (“help”?) towards the Club, the town of Udine and my family: he is like an adopted son to me. Andf (“And”?) I am sure this is not his last birthday as a footballer”.

Yet, time passes for all, but Gianpaolo Pozzo has clear ideas on the future of “King Totò”.
“I am sure Di Natale will stay in Udine also at the end of his extraordinary career – the chairman said -. Which role? Whenever he, he alone, will decide to quit, I’d love him to start a path for young players. Totò is an example for young boys, both inside and outside the pitch, he’s the right person to teach football – and life – to the new generations” (let’s hope though that he DOESN’T teach anyone English!!!!!).

Maicosuel: “Someone thought I was gone, they were wrong”

“Someone thought Reginaldo de Matos Maicosuel had gone, disappeared, but it isn’t so. The Wizard has been here all along as I want to play for Udinese”.

So said – in exclusive (“in an exclusive interview”?) for Udinese Channel – Udinese number 77 who, after the unlucky night against Sporting Braga, has shown to be a talented player in the away game in Naples. “To play is very important to me – “the wizard” (“wizard or Wizard”?) said – and I am happy because I played as a first string player in Naples and I can feel to be trusted by the coach, the squad, the staff and the Club. Trust is fundamental to play at my best. I think Udinese are growing (“is growing”?), we weren’t going through a good period, but we’re out of it and we’ve managed to do so as a squad. We, the foreigners, are adjusting in well (“are adjusting well”?) and we aim at working hard to do better and better and to be ready whenever the coach needs us”.

Nationa teams (“National teams”?): all the commitments

The Serie A stops to allow national teams to play, but Udinese players (“Udinese’s players”?) are not resting as many of them are busy playing for a qualification either for the World Cup of for the Africa Cup.

Udinese are represented in South America by Pablo Armero, selected to play (“for”?) Paraguay and Camerun (“Cameroon”?). Thanks to the last two wins (Armero has played both the times)  (“had played both times”?) Colombia are one of the possible qualified teams. The Cafeteros are ranking (“are ranked”?) second after 7 matches, along with Ecuador and one point away from Argentina.  In Europe, Zeljko Brkic is going to play Belgium in Belgrad (“Belgrade”?) first, then Macedonia in Skopje. The national team coached by Sinisa Mihajlovic leads the group together with Belgium and Croatia with 4 points. Dusan Basta has been selected too, but he is going to stay in Udine to recover after an injury.

Matias Ranegie has been selected by his Sweden (“by his Swedish national team”?) to face Far Oer and Germany in Berlin. Sweden have played only once so far, against Kazakista, and have had a 2-0 win.

No qualifications for the 2014 World Cup but for the 2013 Africa Cup instead in Africa (word order!). Benatia and his Morocco (“and his Moroccan national team”?) are asked to win over Mozambico, winner of the first-leg tie 2-0. Badu, who should have played Malawi (“against Malawi”?), will not play for his Ghana due to an injury.

Focus on Liverpool and the away game at Anfield

The forthcoming opponent to Udinese (“Udinese’s forthcoming opponent”?) is one of a kind, a team that has made the history of English and European football, in one of the most suggestive stadia of the world for its atmosphere, its passion, its red wall and its 60.000 people singing “You’ll never walk alone”. It’s Liverpool, of course, the 5-time Europe champions (“European champions”?), 3-time UEFA Cup and Super Cup winners, 18-time England champions, having won 7 FA Cups and 8 League Cups. An impressive record. A thrilling history and a respectful present, with top-level players.

Liverpool haven’t made a good start this year: 5 points in six games (either: “Five points in six games” or “5 points in 6 games”?). But in the Europa League they have scored 5 goals to Young Boys (“against Young Boys”?) in Berne, playing with reserves.

The football manager is Brendan Rodgers (“is Irishman Brendan Rodgers”?), Irish, who did great things for Swansea. The “Reds” play offensively: 4-2-1-3. With Pepe Reina as a goalkeeper since 2005, Kelly and Johnson on the wings and the central couple Agger-Skrtel to grant (“to give”?) physical strength and reliability. The strongest and most representative player is in the middle: Steven Gerrard. A life spent with Liverpool (“He’s spent his life with Liverpool”?), he is the institution, the flag of the squad, he who lifted the Champions League (“Champions’ League”?) Cup (and scored one goal) in the magical Istanbul night in 2005, 593 appearances and 53 goals scored. He is helped by one of Rodgers’ trusted players: Joe Allen, who arrived to Liverpool (“who arrived at Liverpool”?) together with the coach from Swansea and has already become irreplaceable, always on the pitch, never been substituted (“and has never been substituted”?). According to the game (??), they are helped by the Turkish player Nuri Sahin, on loan from Real Madrid, or (“and”?) the talented home-grown Jonjo Shelvey. Room for fantasy (“There’s room for fantasy”?) in the front (“up front”?) with the young Spanish Suso, lined up on the right (“who is lined-up on the right”?) in the last couple of games, with the teenager (he’s only 17) Raheem Sterling on the opposite side, then the two strikers who can also play as playmakers: Luis Suarez, one of Juve’s desired players, and Fabio Borini, back to England (“back in England”?) after a brilliant season in Rome.

Giampi-goal: the gladiator at San Paolo
Giampiero Pinzi has managed to “punch in” also this year (punch in what?). Our number 66, with the goal scored at San Paolo, reaches 15 goals in his absolute score (??) with Udinese. Being a midfielder, scoring is not his actual job, yet in 11 seasons for Udinese he has scored at least once in 8 of them (8 of them what? Games?).

Napoli seem to be Pinzi’s favoured (“favorite”?) victim as he had scored to them (“against them”?) last year at the Friuli (“stadium”?): Napoli, as well as Inter, got two goals from him. More “democratic” the balance of the other 11 victims, struck (???) only once each.

The first goal was December 2001 in a local derby to (“against”?) Verona. After the lead taken by Muzzi, Pinzi scored the 2-0 goal, which would turn out to be the winner as Verona only managed to have Oddo score one goal. He also scored in European cups (“European cup games”?): 16 September 2004, Athens. Pinzi scored the illusory (???) equaliser to (“against”?) Panionios, who would win 3-1 and qualify for the following stage. One goal in the Coppa Italia, in the 2006/07 season: a crucial goal scored in extra time to (“against”?) Albinoleffe, which allowed Udinese to qualify for the following round of the competition.

Pozzo: “We won’t lose anymore if we play like this”

After the match at the San Paolo  (“stadium”?) Udinese are feeling bitter, but they also know they would have deserved a happy ending: “Tonight’s match was extremely difficult, but we’ve faced it greatly – Gianpaolo Pozzo said to Udinese Channel -. I am happy with the performance, not with the scoring. Our Brazilian players are finally showing what they’re made of. Maicosuel has done a good job, he’s an adaptable playmaker. We won’t be losing many games if we keep playing like this. The squad is doing well physically, but we couldn’t score in the second half. Napoli have  (“has”?) incredible strikers, but they have been lucky too: we were still attacking when the match finished. Had we drawn, we wouldn’t have stolen anything. It’s been an unlucky night and Napoli have been pitiless. They will play for the shield (“title”?) along with Juventus”.
08-10-2012

Viviani: “We are growing. We aim at avoiding relegation”

After the beating in Naples, Fabio Viviani, assistant of Francesco Guidolin (“Francesco Guidolin’s assistant?), has commented on the match and the squad’s performance: “I believe Napoli made several efforts to face this Udinese. We’ve performed very well against a team which is aiming at the shield (“title”?). We missed those 5 centimeters on Faraoni’s shot. We are growing (up?) and today Maicosuel has given an important contribution, we are growing. We keep looking at the ranking. There was the danger of leaving our minds at Anfield, but the San Paolo (“stadium”?) made us feel the reality. Our goal is still to avoid relegation, we are justly worried”.

What do you think of Guidolin’s expulsion?
“Nothing particular, just a misunderstanding”.

Did you find Napoli invincible?
“Napoli are great, but Udinese came here with great personality (??). Napoli had to score two masterpieces to win”.
8-10-2012

Pinzi: “Great Udinese, yet no points”

The great goal scored by Pinzi at the San Paolo stadium was not enough to get at least a draw from Napoli. The goal of Pandev (“Pandev’s goal”?) at the end of the first half has set the scoring on 2-1: “We have seen a great Udinese and we feel sorry to go back to Udine with no points. Our performance was great and if we continue this way the points will come. We have to keep believing in what we do”.

How are you all doing?
“I could take the pitch tomorrow, but the break will do us good. We need to recover”.

What do you think of Maicosuel?
“The Brazilian player was a bit blue (???) after the failed penalty to (“against”?) Sporting Braga. He’s a quality player and now that he’s back in shape he’s another weapon we can use”.

Fabbrini: “A pity we hit the crossbar”

The second consecutive 0-0 for Udinese has been welcomed with regret by Diego Fabbrini: “It’s been a tough game, we’ve delivered several attempts (??) – the ex-Empoli player said -. We couldn’t score, but we’ve gained one point that is useful. We are happy with our performance but we can do better”.

We saw you talking with Di Natale, what did he tell you?

Same things you always say before a game. We’re friends and he’s one of the strongest Italian players. He’s part of this group.

What do you think of Genoa?

They are a good team and have given us troubles (like those in Northern Ireland?). The only regret is that crossbar hit by (“which was hit”?) Danilo in the first half.
How did you cope with Ranegie?

I have a good feeling (??) with the Swedish player as well as with other forwards. I try and adapt to the physical and technical features of my team-mates.
How are you getting ready for the away game at Anfield?

Two tough games are ahead, Liverpool and Napoli. We’ll try to face them as best as we can.

Poor Beatles!

From a recent article in Repubblica's "XL" magazine on the movie and album of the same name by The Beatles.  You'd think that the journalist would at least take a look at the album cover to make sure if it's "Mystery" or "Mistery"!!!!!
